How do You Sign Up?

Through these three easy steps:

  • Select Basic Learning Skills as your first choice for your child's tutor in the Choice Information Form you will receive from your school district's Choice Office;

  • Contact the assistant principal at your child's school; and

  • Attend a provider's fair, an open house, or a related event held at a participating school.

  • Call Basic Learning Skills’ home office at (239) 332-3480.

Where is Your Child Tutored?

Your child will be tutored at the school that he or she currently attends, usually at the end of the regular school day. Tutoring groups are small enough to allow your child to receive individual attention.

What Subjects are Covered?

A tutorial plan is prepared for your child based on his or her individual needs in specific areas of Reading and/or Math. This plan is developed with you on the specific goals and objectives for your child's learning needs. Test results from FCAT and other standardized tests are considered in the development of a student's plan.

Basic Learning Skills works closely with your child's homeroom teacher and other faculty members from the school your child attends.

Who Does the Tutoring?

Mostly teachers from your child's school district conduct the tutoring sessions. They understand the areas in reading and math in which students need the most help.

What type of Progress Reports Will You Get?

You will be kept abreast of your child's progress through written monthly reports. You may also contact your child's lead teacher who can arrange personal visits for you with your child's tutor. whose contact information you will be given. To set up an appointment to visit your child's tutor, please call the home office at (239) 332-3480.
